The short version: your history, notes and dictionary stay on your Mac. Our servers pass your audio and text to our providers to write your words, and never store them. We keep your account details and usage counts, never what you said. The privacy policy has every detail.

What stays on your Mac

Your takes, notes and dictionary live in a local database on your Mac. They are never synced to us or anywhere else, and you can delete any of them in the app.

Voxy keeps the audio of a take on your Mac only when it may need it again: when a take fails, when you cancel one that is 10 seconds or longer, or when Voxy cannot confirm that every part of it was written. That audio is what Retry uses, and it stays after a Retry works. Voxy deletes it the first time it starts after the audio is 14 days old, or straight away when you delete the take. A take written on the first try keeps no audio.

What passes through our servers

To write your words, the Mac app sends your audio, and then the text made from it, to our servers. Our servers pass them to our speech recognition and AI language providers and send the finished text back to you. With the text go the name of the app you are typing into and up to 40 words from your dictionary, so the writing suits the app and your names are spelled your way.

Our servers never store your audio or your words. Our providers process them under their own terms, and neither uses them to train its models. Our AI language provider deletes what we send it within 30 days. Our speech recognition provider keeps audio and transcripts with no fixed deletion date, to run and improve its service and keep it secure. The privacy policy explains both.

What we keep

Your email address, a scrambled form of your password, your plan, and usage counts such as how many words you dictated each week. Never your audio, your text, your notes or your dictionary.

When something breaks, the Mac app sends us a short technical crash report that never contains your words. Crash reports are on unless you turn them off in Settings, under Data & Privacy.

Who helps us run Voxy

A few outside services do part of the work for us:

  • Speech recognition and AI language providers, which turn your speech into text and clean it up.
  • Payments: Polar sells Voxy Pro on our website, and Apple handles purchases made through the App Store.
  • Email delivery, which sends the emails Voxy sends you, such as password resets and email confirmations, and brings us the emails you send.
  • Hosting, which runs our servers and stores our database and its backups.
  • File delivery, which stores and serves the Voxy download and its updates.

Delete a take or a note

On the Dictation page, click the trash button on a take. A take with saved audio asks first, then deletes the take and its audio together. Deleting a note in the Scratchpad also asks first.

Delete your account

On the website, sign in, open your account page, click Delete account, type DELETE and confirm. Your account and the usage linked to it are deleted from our servers straight away. Payment records stay for our tax records, no longer linked to you, and our database backups can hold a copy until they are deleted, as the privacy policy explains. Deleting also cancels Pro bought on the website, and the days left in that month are not refunded. Pro that Apple bills keeps going until you cancel it in your Apple Account subscriptions.

You can also email hello@tryvoxy.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We confirm it is you, then delete it within 30 days.

Deleting your account does not touch your Mac. To remove everything there too:

  1. Quit Voxy: click the Voxy icon in the menu bar, then Quit Voxy.
  2. Move Voxy from your Applications folder to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go, then Go to Folder, type ~/Library/Application Support/voxtype and move that folder to the Trash. It holds your history, notes, dictionary and any saved audio.

Your rights

To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email hello@tryvoxy.com from the address on your account. We reply within 30 days.

Still stuck?

Write to support@tryvoxy.com from the email address on your account. Tell us your Voxy version (open the Voxy menu and choose About Voxy), what you did, and the exact words of any message you saw. A person reads every email.

Never send your password, card numbers or the codes we email you. We will never ask for them.
