Allow the microphone, keyboard access and Input Monitoring
On this page
Voxy asks for three permissions in Setup, and it needs all three before you can continue. They are given to Voxy alone, and you can see or change them in System Settings at any time.
What each permission is for
- Microphone, so Voxy can hear you. It listens only while you hold your key or while a hands free take runs, and your Mac shows its orange microphone dot while it does.
- Keyboard access, which macOS calls Accessibility, so Voxy can notice your dictation key and type the finished text where your cursor is. It also lets read aloud see the text you select.
- Input Monitoring, so Voxy can hear Escape and you can cancel a take while you talk.
Turn them on in Setup
- Next to Microphone, click Allow and say yes when macOS asks. If you said no before, click Open System Settings and turn Voxy on in the list.
- Next to Keyboard access, click Grant, or Settings to open the list yourself, and turn Voxy on. Setup then asks you to tap your dictation key once. That one tap proves the key reaches Voxy.
- Next to Input Monitoring, click Grant, or Settings, and turn Voxy on. If macOS offers to quit and reopen Voxy, say yes.
When all three show a check, click Continue.
Where they live in System Settings
On macOS 13 Ventura and later, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. You will find three lists there: Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring. Voxy should be in each one with its switch on.
If a switch is on but Voxy says it is off
This can happen after an update, or when macOS remembers an older copy of Voxy.
- Quit Voxy: click the Voxy icon in the menu bar, then Quit Voxy.
- In System Settings, Privacy & Security, open Accessibility or Input Monitoring, whichever looks wrong. Select Voxy and remove it with the minus button.
- Add it back with the plus button, choosing Voxy from your Applications folder, and turn its switch on.
- Open Voxy again.
The Microphone list has no plus or minus button. If it is the one that looks wrong, turn Voxy's switch off and on again there, then open Voxy.
To check where you stand, open Setup again from the Voxy icon in the menu bar. It shows which permission is still missing.
If Setup says the key module did not load
Quit Voxy and open it again. If the message stays, download Voxy again from the download page and replace the copy in your Applications folder.
